Apple Macbook Air
The new Apple MacBook Air is thin and beautiful, and is able to do tricks such as borrow the optical drive of another computer on a network. The MacBook Air has much longer batterlife than the MacBook or MacBook Pro. The thing is, given that this MacBook is aimed fairly and squarely at the traveller, extensive battery life when on the road is essential. But if you wish to own the thinnest notebook in the world, it is expected to have premium pricing. There just isn't any way to prepare yourself for the thinness of this notebook until you hold it in your hands for the first time.
With the display open and the notebook laying flat on your desk the palmrest is a pencil eraser's height above the surface of your desk. The real beauty of this notebook though is its clean design with only one visible port connection, with the rest hidden by a magnetic latch cover. The body continues with its sleek look with all rounded and polished surfaces and not even a foot to catch when the notebook is being slid into a bag. For users that opt not to get the optical drive, Apple is offering a new software feature on this machine called Remote Disk; it enables you to "borrow" the optical drive of another Mac or PC on the same network as the MacBook Air, to use for installing software, for example. The MacBook Air has arrived, a third MacBook model that brings incredibly small size to the MacBook line at a premium price.
For the kind of lightweight work that a MacBook Air would be doing, we think that the slightly slower processor was a wise choice on Apple's part. The Multi-touch trackpad is an interesting innovation, although I'm sure I won't be the only person slightly disappointed not to see a touch-screen on the MacBook Air. Actually, it would probably be a nonsense addition, but it would certainly be a better talking point.
The one feature that I feel is really missing from the MacBook Air is a GPRS mobile phone connection. I think Apple missed a trick in not combining the MacBook Air with your iPhone account to enable users to send emails and surf the net (even over the EDGE network) from anywhere Overall I think this is a promising notebook that should force some other manufacturers to wake up and design some lighter and slimmer full-size notebooks.
